On the 17th of June 2023, the members of ZPiT Wiesniacy were honoured to perform at the Family Fun Day at the RAF Museum based in Cosford. We performed one of our fan favourites, Spisz, and members of the Polish community across the West Midlands showed up to offer their utmost support. While performing, it was refreshing to be supported by such a charismatic, vibrant crowd who had travelled to Cosford especially to experience our singing and dancing. It was a brilliant environment in which to show off our Polish culture and our infinite passion for song and dance, with beautiful blue skies and helpful staff members across the site. We showcased our dance twice on the day, and both times we felt the energy and curiosity exhibited by the audience.

Not only did we enjoy performing at RAF Cosford, but we also enjoyed the immersive experience offered by the museum and the organisers of the Family Fun Day. Being able to appreciate other performances, such as the energetic Dhol drum group and a beautiful Chinese song and dance sequence, was invigorating for us all, as they were filled with such enthusiasm and skill and set a positive tone for the day. A highlight of our day included our time spent being free to explore the different activities on offer and stumbling across a fun experience offered by the West Midlands Police: members of the public were able to dress up as police officers and experience how it feels to sit in the back of a police vehicle! Our young members also enjoyed the basketball area, which led to a lot of friendly competition. And of course, touring the expansive museum and seeing all of the impressive aircraft was a brilliant experience.

However, our dancers were particularly impressed by the museum’s dedication to Polish air force squadrons that flew with the RAF during World War 2. This was done through a beautifully made and researched exhibit located in the heart of the museum, honouring the lives and military achievements of Polish pilots and soldiers. We spent our time at this exhibit respecting the impressive accomplishments of these Poles and taking the time to learn more about their pasts. Through this exhibit, Wiesniacy felt extremely welcomed by the museum, and we were left feeling immensely proud.

Overall, we had a wonderful time performing and also being able to broaden our minds through the educational exhibits. We thank everyone at RAF Cosford for providing us with such an enjoyable day, and we would be honoured to return one day!
